Flying to or through the Middle East is currently extremely dangerous and not recommended. Eight major airports across the region have suspended operations: Dubai DXB, Dubai DWC, Abu Dhabi AUH, Doha DOH, Bahrain BAH, Kuwait KWI, Tel Aviv TLV, and Tehran IKA. Airspace from the eastern Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf is effectively closed to civilian traffic.
Major international airlines have suspended all Middle East services. British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, and all Gulf carriers (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways) have cancelled flights through at least March 7. Airlines are offering full refunds or free rebooking for affected passengers. Eurocontrol has issued warnings for all flights routing through the region.
Overfly traffic that normally routes through Middle Eastern airspace is being rerouted over the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, or Africa, adding 2-4 hours to many intercontinental flights. Fuel surcharges may increase. Travelers with upcoming Middle East bookings should proactively cancel and claim refunds.
